Mont Brouilly, a must-see Beaujolais site

The hill of Mont Brouilly and its chapel offer everyone a break on the Beaujolais Wine Route to enjoy a unique 360° panorama.

With its vine-covered slopes (AOC Côte de Brouilly), the Mont Brouilly hill is the most recognizable of all, notably with the Notre-Dame-des-Raisins chapel, but it is also distinguished by the particularity of its soil, composed of blue rock of volcanic origin. It is this particularity that gives Côte-de-Brouilly appellation wines their exceptional terroir. The profile of the wines is thus recognizable by spicy, black pepper notes, sometimes almost similar to Rhone syrah. These wines are often full-bodied, with medium-to-high tannins, but always with good acidity to balance them out. The vines eligible for the Brouilly appellation are located at the foot of Mont Brouilly

Culminating at an altitude of 484 meters, Mont Brouilly is a veritable emblem of the region, along with the Chapelle Notre-Dame-des-Raisins, built in 1854 to protect the vineyards from bad weather and disease. For the more motivated, Mont Brouilly also offers interpretive trails to the summit, as well as sporting events (car rallies, mountain biking, etc.). Curious visitors will find a geoscope, the emblematic site of the Beaujolais Geopark, to quench their thirst for learning, and astronomy enthusiasts will find the region's best spot for stargazing. Families can enjoy a picnic before descending into the fir forests.

Located in Chiroubles at an altitude of 760 meters, La Terrasse du Beaujolais restaurant and the Maison du Cru Chiroubles overlook the entire Beaujolais valley and the Monts du Lyonnais, always impressing passers-by.

Starting from the restaurant, a discovery trail allows you to enjoy the surrounding area.

This panoramic trail (2km, approx. 1h30) offers exceptional views of the Beaujolais hillsides, the Saône valley and, on a clear day, the Alps. It reveals the secrets of the 10 crus and their geology.

At the Maison du Cru Chiroubles, you can discover and taste most of the wines produced under this appellation. If you're lucky, you'll even be served by a Chiroubles winemaker.
