Lyon is known as the capital of gastronomy. Indeed, it is THE destination for food lovers visiting from other regions of France or elsewhere. But it is also a must-visit destination for wine! The city is ideally located on the Rhône River, between Beaujolais and the Northern Rhône Valley, Burgundy a little further north, Savoie and Bugey to the east, and the Coteaux du Lyonnais, Centre-Loire, and Auvergne to the west. Here are the 10 best wine bars in Lyon, as identified by Thomas Lejeune.

7 Place Saint-Paul, 69005 Lyon

At the end of Vieux-Lyon, Cave des Voyageurs welcomes wine lovers who want to relax and browse through the cellar book of over 900 references, mainly focused on Burgundy, Beaujolais, and the Rhône Valley. In a slightly bistro-style atmosphere, take a seat at the counter or upstairs and enjoy a glass or a bottle with one of their famous mixed platters featuring fabulous local products. No reservations, so be sure to arrive early!

Cave des Voyageurs

34 rue Sergent Blandan, 69001 Lyon

Ideally located on the beautiful Place Sathonay, Bel Ami is a wine bar where you quickly feel at home. The kitchen offers a daily lunch menu and dishes to share in the evening (tapas-inspired), which contribute to creating a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, just like the team in the dining room. The stone walls, leather benches, and wooden tables perfectly reflect the authenticity and purity that you feel in the place and find in the food and drink. The wine list is carefully curated, with each selection having been tasted at the estate beforehand, and the staff are happy to share their recent favorites. A word of advice? Book in advance!

123 Rue Bugeaud, 69006 Lyon

Launched by Julien and Harvey (M Restaurant and Bouchon Sully), this establishment is an ode to good food and drink, a place where you feel at home. In the kitchen, chef Marie Poutier creates beautiful dishes. In the dining room, Suzanne Dahine is on hand to recommend the perfect bottle of wine to accompany your meal.

24 Rue de la Platière, 69001 Lyon

A neighborhood wine bar created by Olivier and Mathieu. What's on the menu? Beautiful dishes to share alongside an extensive wine list, with an emphasis on wines from the Rhône Valley and Languedoc. A warm and intimate setting where you can enjoy a drink with friends or even colleagues (the venue is often booked for private events by companies). Cheers!

19 boulevard des Brottreaux, 69006 Lyon

Nestled in the heart of Les Brotteaux, Clos Bis is an intimate and friendly wine bar, designed for lovers of fine wines and shared moments. A selection of over 2,000 wines to discover, accompanied by sharing platters and seasonal dishes. Private events, tastings, winemaker meetings... Here, wine is a way of life.

44 Cours Franklin Roosevelt, 69006 Lyon

Located in the heart of Lyon's 6th arrondissement, Granit invites you to take your time: have a drink, taste, share a plate, savor. Their wine bar reflects the values that are important to them: a careful and passionate selection of wines, fresh food, and fair prices. Here, each product is chosen with care, combining quality, fairness, and freshness. Backed by the Roosevelt Cellar, you can be sure to find quality wines here!

37 Rue des Remparts d'Ainay, 69002 Lyon

Created by Paul and Margaux, this wine bar near Ainay Basilica offers a carefully curated selection of mainly organic, biodynamic, and even natural wines. A wine cellar in the morning and a wine bar in the afternoon, it's the perfect place to discover little gems unearthed by the duo or rediscover the great classics. When it comes to food, the spirit is one of sharing. Mature cheeses from Mons (Lyon 2nd arrondissement), charcuterie from Olio Di Serra, and vegetarian spreads accompany the drinks. No haute cuisine here, just simple, carefully chosen pairings designed to showcase the wines.

  1. Soif !

    4 Rue Terme, 69001 Lyon

Not far from Bel-Ami, SOIF! has arrived in the Place Sathonay neighborhood with a perfect fusion of the worlds of wine and retro gaming, creating the one-of-a-kind WineBar Arcade. Nestled in the heart of Lyon, this lively spot combines the sophistication of a wine bar with the joy of arcade games for those of us who are feeling nostalgic.

  1. Muraato

7 Rue Charles Dullin, 69002 Lyon

A wine bar cellar that knows how to get people talking, thanks to the quality of its selection, its cool welcome and helpful advice, its focus on winemakers producing signature wines from all regions, and its excellent references, such as Agrapart in Champagne and Montbourgeau in Jura. The sign suggests that Corsica is well represented, which is indeed the case (Nicrosi, Arena, Stéphanie Olmeta, etc.), and the delicatessen and small plates section is also very impressive. Be sure to check the opening hours at the end of the day, as the cellar turns into a wine bar for a short time, except on Thursdays when it's nice to stay longer.

70 Rue Ney, 69006 Lyon

Created by partners from La Nouvelle Cave, located in the same district, this intimate wine bar with inspired cuisine offers a new atmosphere to discover in the 6th arrondissement, which already boasts a wealth of wine bars. Give it a try!
